Coach Asaf

About Me

I was born in Damascus in 1981 into a sports-oriented family, influenced by my father, Fayez al-Haddad, a champion bodybuilder in Syria. From the age of 13, basketball became my passion. I joined the Army Club, one of the largest basketball clubs in Syria, where I played on all the junior teams and eventually made it to the men’s team.

As a player, I won the Syrian Championship with the under-16 team in 1997 and was part of the youth team that claimed the championship in 2000. At 20, I transitioned into coaching, starting with junior teams at Army Club. Over the next few years, I served as the Head Boys' Basketball Coach at Army Club, working with Mini Basketball, U13, and U15 teams. I also coached women’s teams at Qassyoun Sporting Club and acted as an assistant coach for the men’s first team. In 2007, I returned to Army Sports Club as the head coach for the under-16 team.

My coaching journey took me to Al Wasl Club in the UAE, where I spent five years as the head coach for the under-12 and under-14 teams. During this time, I contributed as an assistant coach for the men’s team, helping them secure the Super Cup in the 2009-2010 season.

In 2011, I moved to Qatar to serve as the head coach for the under-16 team. Throughout my coaching career, I’ve attended numerous coaching clinics in Greece, Jordan, Dubai, Qatar, Turkey, and Syria. Notably, I participated in the International Olympic Academy in 2007.

With all this experience, my true passion has always been the development of young players, ensuring they have the skills and support to thrive in basketball.
